Metabolic Engineering

Modern metabolic engineering has created a renewed interest in improving the production of fermentation products such as amino acids and vitamins and, in addition, has paved the way for economically viable fermentation routes to large-volume chemicals, for example dyes and polymers.

Metabolic engineering is a multidisciplinary effort involving microbiologists, microbial physiologists, molecular biologists, biochemists, and chemical engineers. BTR's staff of scientists and engineers are drawn from all these disciplines and have extensive experience in strain and process improvement for metabolite overproduction.

BTR takes a fully integrated approach to metabolic engineering. Fermentation results are quickly analyzed and efficiently fed back into strain development efforts. This integration of fermentation and strain improvement allows us to develop scalable processes that fit our customers' needs.
