Strains were grown for 72 hours in M9B medium in shake flasks and induced with lactose from the time of inoculation. GlcNAc was produced at high levels in the medium of nagB+GNA1-expressing strains, reaching as high as 80% of that using the glmS*54+GNA1 expression strain.
